Meet JOHANNA JÖNSSON

House 103 is a furniture business that are producing hand made furniture with a touch of Scandinavia. I want to offer my customers scaled back furniture with warm functionality, simplicity and beauty. By mixing light and dark together with nature and wood I want to create the right style and atmosphere. It can all be described with three words: minimalistic, clean and light/bright?

Material
The most of our products are made with a mix of mahogany and marine plywood. Mahogany wood due to its stability and strength and marine plywood do to its water resistance, impact resistance and surface finish.

One of the biggest advantage of using marine plywood is that it can deal with moisture. This type of wood has a special glue layer on the outside that is designed to keep moisture out of the surface of the wood. It has no gaps in it, which means that moisture can not find its way in, which means it does not crack as many other wood types does. This is ideal if you are going to be building something that will regularly be subjected to water or moisture and it is commonly used when making boats.

Another advantages is that the outside layer of the plywood is extremely hard and dense. This means that if you drop something on it or something runs into it, it will not necessarily dent or break. With marine plywood, I can get a very smooth finish, which makes it easy to paint and to create the design that I’m want.
